Hunn named to communication position at Coastal Carolina University

March 26, 2009

Martha Hunn has been named director of news and public affairs at Coastal Carolina University, effective May 1.

Hunn will be responsible for communication functions, including the University's news bureau for print and electronic media, all University publications, crisis communication, Web site content and new media applications.

"Martha's skills, her lifelong connection to our county and to Coastal Carolina University as an alumna, and her warmth and professionalism will greatly benefit our university, county and state," said Edgar Dyer, executive vice president of the University.

Hunn has been an evening anchor at WBTW News 13 for more than four years. She is a graduate of Conway High School and of Coastal Carolina University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in political science. She was recently named South Carolina Anchor of the Year by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association.

Prior to joining News 13, Hunn was chief executive officer of the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association, and she served as Horry County Government's first public information officer. She began her career in television in 1987 as a reporter and anchor.

In 2001, Hunn was awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent by the governor for her contributions in helping the law enforcement community. This is the highest honor that can be awarded to a South Carolina citizen for community service.

Other awards that Hunn received in 2008 include the Conway Education Foundation Hall of Fame award, the Mary Dean Brewer Women of Distinction Award and the Public Relations/Communication award from the NAACP.
