Coastal Carolina University's Student Government Association will host a
"Day of Remembrance" at noon on April 16 at the Graham Bell Tower. The
observance will honor members of the Coastal Carolina University community
who have died during the past year. The event is held in conjunction with
the anniversary of the tragic shooting at Virginia Tech in 2007, and is open
to the University community.
President David DeCenzo will give an opening address, followed by a moment
of silence led by Student Body President Trevor Arrowood and a performance
of "Let It Be" by the Coastal Inspirational Ambassadors. Haven Hart of the Office of Student Affairs will also speak.
Arrowood will also read the names of Coastal Carolina University faculty,
staff and student body who have passed away during the past year. Following
the ceremony, the bell tower will toll 33 times to recognize the victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy, and Thomas Patrick Squire, sophomore communication major from Society Hill, will give the
benediction.
