New education dean named at Coastal Carolina University

Dianne L. Hall Mark has been named dean of the Spadoni College of Education at Coastal Carolina University, effective June 15.

Mark will lead the development of academic programs, with an emphasis on those that are technology-rich; oversee all aspects of the Spadoni College's operations, including faculty hiring, budget and enrollment; foster collaborative relationships; and participate in external fundraising.

Mark has been dean of the College of Professional Studies at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania for the past two years. Previously, she was associate dean and interim associate dean of the College of Education and Human Services at Central Michigan University. She was also a faculty member at Drake University and taught at Des Moines Area Community College, Niagara University and in the Buffalo Public School District.

Mark earned an M.Ed. and a Ph.D. in education administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She earned a master's degree in student personnel administration from Buffalo State College and a bachelor's degree in physical education from Michigan State University.

She attended Harvard Institute's Management Development Program and the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education's (AACTE) New Deans Institute, and is a member of the Board of Examiners for the National Council for the Accreditation of Education (NCATE).

Widely published in the academic community, she is the co-author of a book about multicultural literature. She has made numerous presentations to educational conferences and serves on the editorial board for the journal Urban Education. Mark was the recipient of the Minority Achievement Award from Minority Opinion Magazine last year.

She and her husband Eddie Mark have two daughters, Talia and Tashi.

Gibson Darden has been interim dean of the Spadoni College of Education in addition to his duties as director of the School of Health, Kinesiology and Sport Studies.
