Coastal Carolina University announces new appointments in Student Affairs

Coastal Carolina University's Office of Student Affairs announces new staff appointments.

Luke Benfield has been named the coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life. He will oversee the University's Fraternity and Sorority Life program by coordinating educational and leadership development programs for Greek organizations.

He recently earned an M.Ed. in educational leadership from Florida Gulf Coast University, where he served as adviser for the Interfraternity Council, Pan-Hellenic Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council. He earned a bachelor's degree in English literature and in economics from Mercer University.

Kathryn Zahm will join the Office of Student Activities and Leadership as the co-coordinator of Volunteer Student Services. As an Americorps/VISTA volunteer, she will work with students to promote volunteerism and develop grant proposals to support volunteer programs. Zahm earned a bachelor's degree in political science and marketing from Assumption College where she was the service director for the Reach Out Center.

Laura Arroyo is the new area director for the Office of Residence Life. She will supervise the resident directors, coordinate the recruitment, selection and supervision of the Resident Assistant (RA) staff. She will also manage the day-to-day operations of The Gardens student residential community.

Arroyo has worked in a variety of residence life positions at the University of Maine, the University of Bridgeport and, most recently, at Brandeis University. She earned a bachelor's degree in social work at Mansfield University and a master's degree at the University of Maine.
