Coastal Carolina University renames athletic club

August 5, 2009

Coastal Carolina University's athletic booster organization, the Chanticleer Club, has been renamed the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation.

Mark Roach, executive director of the organization, said the name change will "distinguish a difference between Coastal Carolina University Athletics and the many high schools in the area with booster clubs." The new name should help with the University's ability to raise enough funds to "take Coastal Athletics to the next level," according to Roach.

For more than 30 years, the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation, originally called the CINO (Coastal Is Number One) Club, has been raising funds for athletic scholarships and capital needs. "Our board felt that organizations may be more comfortable dealing with a foundation when it comes to larger gifts or naming rights opportunities," said Roach.

The Foundation's goals are consistent with the policies of Coastal Carolina University, the athletic department and the NCAA. The organization includes more than 900 members.
