Coastal Carolina University Theatre Presents 'The Spitfire Grill'

"The Spitfire Grill," a heartwarming American musical, will be performed by Coastal Carolina University Theatre starting Thursday, Sept. 24 and running through Oct. 3.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24 and Friday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27 and at 7:30 p.m. from Wednesday, Sept. 30 through Saturday, Oct. 3 in the Black Box Theatre in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

` "The Spitfire Grill" is a poignant musical about hope and redemption. Paroled from prison, Percy Talbott picks a place on the map where she can make a new start. The young woman lands a job at the Spitfire Grill in the small, rural town of Gilead, Wis. She inspires the residents of Gilead and helps them rediscover themselves through her appreciation of the beauty and simplicity of small town life.

The music and book are by James Valcq, with lyrics and book by Fred Alley, based on the film by Lee David Zlotoff.

The cast includes Coastal Carolina University musical theatre majors Jenna Tummino, Meghan Perry, Caleb Jernigan, Nicole Borysowicz, James Wells and theatre major Chad Bagwell. Monica Bell, assistant professor of theatre, will also be performing in the show. Aaron McAllister, assistant professor of theatre, is the director.

General admission is $15; teens (11-17) and children (10 and under) are $5; alumni, senior citizens (65+) and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) members are $10.
