Coastal Carolina University’s Symphonic Band will perform with Presbyterian College’s Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30 in the Belk Auditorium on the campus of Presbyterian College in Clinton. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program for the joint concert features the best of spooky Halloween music. Both ensembles will perform selections separately, then combine for a rousing joint finalè. The Presbyterian College concert band will play “Symphony of Souls” by Robert Smith, “October” by Eric Whitacre and “The Witch and the Saint” by Steven Reineke. The University’s symphonic band will perform three pieces from “Ghost Train” by Eric Whitacre, including “The Ride,” “At the Station” and “The Motive Revolution.” In the joint finalè, the bands will play selections from “The Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber and “House of Horrors,” a medley of scary music arranged by Tom Wallace. The medley is based on the music of Bach, Gounod, Mussorgsky and Chopin.

Coastal Carolina University’s Symphonic Band is directed by James Tully, associate professor of music and founding director of the University’s band program. The 65-member symphonic band has played two world premieres and performed with some of the finest wind band conductors and soloists. The symphonic band has been a mainstay of the concert band program at the University since its inception in fall of 2001.

Presbyterian’s Concert Band is directed by Tim Kintzinger, associate director of music and director of bands and jazz studies at Presbyterian College.
