Coastal Carolina University named a 'best college buy' in national survey

Coastal Carolina University has been named one of "America's 100 Best College Buys" by Institutional Research & Evaluation Inc. More than 1,000 colleges and universities were surveyed for the designation.

The independent research and consulting organization considers higher education institutions that:

* Are accredited, four-year institutions offering bachelor degrees.

* Offer full residential facilities including residence halls and dining services.

* Have a recent entering freshman class reporting a high school grade point average (GPA)

and/or SAT/ACT score equal to or above the national average for entering college freshmen.

* Have an out-of-state cost of attendance for three quarters or two semesters below the national average cost of tuition, fees, room and board or not exceeding the national average cost by more than 10 percent."

"We are elated that, once again, Coastal Carolina University has proven its excellence as an institute of higher education by being included in a major national ranking," said University President David DeCenzo. "Students should know they receive excellent value for each tuition dollar spent at this university."

The Institutional Research & Evaluation Inc. specializes in recruiting and retention of students for institutions of higher education. The firm annually identifies the American colleges and universities that provide students the very best opportunities in higher education. No college or university paid to be included in these reports. Schools are included solely on the basis of merit.

This year institutions from 39 states responded to the 19th Annual National College Survey. A total of 1,451 accredited U.S. colleges and universities that offer four-year undergraduate degree programs and provide facilities for both room and board were surveyed; of those institutions, 1,195 schools responded.

Earlier this year, Coastal Carolina University was ranked in the top 15 percent of the nation's four-year undergraduate institutions in "America's Best Colleges 2009," compiled by Forbes and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity (CCAP).
