CCU Mentoring Program: A Day in the Life of a College Student

April 20, 2010

Coastal Carolina University and the Dalton and Linda Floyd Family Mentoring Program will host its annual “A Day in the Life of a College Student” on Thursday, April 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the CCU campus. More than 300 students from 18 elementary, middle and high schools in Horry and Georgetown counties will attend.

Area media are invited to cover the event. The purpose of the event is to provide public school students who are participating in the mentoring program with an opportunity to visit a college campus. “Our hope is that, through creative educational and interactive experiences with their CCU student mentors on campus, the young students will begin to consider higher education as a real goal for their future,” said Emma Savage-Davis, director of CCU’s Biddle Center for Teaching, Learning and Community Engagement, sponsor of the mentoring program.

“A Day in the Life of a College Student” will include:

• Welcome, Wheelwright Auditorium, 9:25 to 10 a.m.

• Earth Day group activities, Prince Lawn 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

• Planting a “Mentor Tree” in conjunction with Earth Day, Prince Lawn, 12:25 p.m.

• Receive free books courtesy of First Book-Horry County, 12:30 to 1 p.m., Spadoni Park
