Coastal Carolina University's POP 101 ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 29 in Wheelwright Auditorium. General admission is $9; alumni, senior citizens (65+) and Osher Lifelong Institute members, $7; teens (11 through 17), $3; and children (10 and under) are admitted free.
The concert is a celebration of summer and beach music in America. The event will include popular summer songs, featuring Carolina beach music to commemorate the establishment of the Beach Music Hall of Fame at the University.
Selections will be played from such groups and artists as The Drifters, Swingin' Medallions, Ruth Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Ike and Tina Turner, Kid Rock, The Beatles, Alice Cooper, Kenny Chesney, The Go-Go's and others.
POP 101 is the University's contemporary ensemble, directed by Dan O'Reilly, instructor of music. The dynamic group performs popular music in a rock band context, and includes students who play guitar, bass drums, keyboard and horns, as well as vocalists.
