CCU history professor receives research award

President David DeCenzo and Provost Robert Sheehan recently awarded history professor Amanda Brian with the Young Faculty Research Incentive Award, designed to recognize the research progress of faculty and to support the research programs of Coastal Carolina University.

The award is made available through the University Research Council (URC). The recipient of the award provides assistance to the president and provost concerning the development and planning of research, which is one of the primary missions of the University.

Brian will receive $1,000 for research supplies and conference travel. She will advise the president and provost regarding the conduct of research, scholarship and creative affairs, and make recommendations to facilitate the research process and research productivity at the University.

Brian, assistant professor of history, earned a bachelor's degree in history and German from the University of Indianapolis in 2001, a master's degree in history from the University of Illinois in 2004, and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Illinois in 2009.

Her research and teaching interests include Germany, childhood, medicine, gender studies and globalization.
