September 17, 2010

“Hispanic Heritage Celebration,” an annual Coastal Carolina University event held in observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month, is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Prince Lawn. The event is free and open to the public.

The Hispanic Heritage Celebration is a collaborative effort to celebrate the art, history and achievements of Hispanic Americans. Sponsors and student groups including the NAACP and Leadership Challenge will team together to present information relative to Hispanic culture. Table displays on topics such as Hispanic ethnicity, sports, music, family and social structure, language and racial profiling will be presented.

There will be free food samples from Hispanic culture available and a Hispanic vendor. The event will also feature a performance by Saljasol, a salsa, jazz and soul band.

The event is co-sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Services, the Spanish Club and the Department of Spanish.
