Terri DeCenzo has been selected as a Vision 2020 Ambassador to participate in a national project of the Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at Drexel University College of Medicine. Vision 2020 seeks to promote women’s leadership and gender equality by uniting women across disciplines to begin a national dialogue and propose an action agenda to effect positive change. Vision 2020 will convene in Philadelphia in October to begin its work.

DeCenzo was one of more than 1,000 women who were nominated from all 50 states to participate in Vision 2020. Two ambassadors and two delegates were chosen from each state.

Her nomination was made through the Women’s Resource Center at Coastal Carolina University based on her medical background as a registered nurse, her initiative as executive director of the Women in Philanthropy and Leadership for Coastal Carolina University, and her involvement with many community-based service efforts.

She has been instrumental in Shelter Haiti, a University and communitywide effort to help build and ship modular homes to earthquake victims in Haiti. In addition, she serves on boards for the Georgetown Hospital System Foundation, the Coastal South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the Clara Barton Society. She is a founding board member of myTerms, a new nonprofit organization based in Pawleys Island that seeks to enlighten, inspire and empower girls of all ages through healthy self-image and identity development. She serves on the Health Advisory Committee for the American Association for State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), is an adviser to the Safe Families Initiative’s efforts to establish a Family Justice Center in Georgetown County, and chairs the Horry County Promise Committee for Susan G. Komen Foundation. She also served as a co-chair for the 2010 Horry County March of Dimes March for Babies.

She is married to Coastal Carolina University President Dave DeCenzo. They have four children: Mark, Meredith, Gabriella and Natalie.
