'Children of Invention' presented in CCU film series

'Children of Invention' will be shown Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in Wall Auditorium.
"Children of Invention," Tze Chun's award-winning debut film about a struggling Asian-American family, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26 in the Wall Auditorium of the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration Building at Coastal Carolina University. The event is part of the independent film series presented by the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. Admission is $5.

"Children of Invention" premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. The film, set in Boston, is about Elaine, a single mother struggling desperately to support her two young children. The family finds shelter in a model apartment in an unfinished building. While juggling a number of questionable jobs, Elaine doesn't return home one night, and things take a turn for the worse. The film is a drama about the influence of an adult world on children, the immigrant mentality and shortcuts to the American dream.

"Children of Invention" has been screened at more than 50 film festivals and has won 17 festival awards. A meet-and-greet with Sheila Dvorak, associate producer and assistant director, will follow the program.
