Flute and piano duo to perform at CCU

Visiting flutist Christine Gustafson and Coastal Carolina University music faculty member Philip Powell will present a piano and flute duo recital at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25 in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. General admission is $3; CCU and Horry Georgetown Technical College students, and children (10 and under) are free.

The program will feature works by French composer Francis Poulenc and American composers Aaron Copland and Ken Kreuzer.

Gustafson, professor of flute at East Carolina University, has performed as a guest artist and has given master classes in the United States, Asia, Europe and Brazil. She has been a featured performer at the American Music Festival and also performed at the Salzburg Summer Academy Festival, the Waterloo Festival and the Sarasota Music Festival, and as solo flutist for the Banff Opera Orchestra in Canada.

Powell, professor of music, has performed throughout the United States as a soloist and chamber musician. He has given master classes and performance lectures to teachers and students throughout the region. Locally, Powell has performed as a soloist for the Long Bay Symphony and in recitals broadcast on public radio.
