A world percussion concert titled "CalypSamba" is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University. The concert will feature the CCU's World Percussion Ensembles under the direction of Jesse Willis, director of percussion studies.

General admission is $9; alumni and senior citizens (65+) as well as Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) members are $7; teens (11-17) are $3; and children (10 and under) are free. Coastal Carolina University and Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) students are allowed one ticket per valid ID at $3; CCU and HGTC faculty and staff are allowed two tickets per valid ID at $3 each.

This concert will feature members of the CCU World Music Ensemble performing in both the CCU Samba Bateria, a Brazilian percussion ensemble, and C-PAN, a 30-piece steel band.

The CCU Samba Bateria will be performing two styles of music from different regions of Brazil, Maracatu from Recife and Samba Batucada from Rio de Janeiro.

C-PAN will be playing traditional Calypso and Soca music from Trinidad and Tobago, as well as arrangements of popular music. Some of the pieces the pan group will perform include "St. Thomas" by Sonny Rollins, "Sunset" by Len 'Boogsie' Sharp, "This Love" by Maroon 5 and "Eleanor Rigby" by The Beatles.
