Borenya West African Drum and Dance is a workshop and performance touring company comprised of musicians and dancers from Guinea, West Africa.

In the countries of West Africa, music and rhythm are a large part of everyday life. The drum and dance routines portray stories of marriage, child rearing, changing seasons, healing, hunting, and the planting and harvesting of crops. West African people have a song or dance for almost every aspect of their daily lives. Many of the songs and dances are hundreds of years old and are performed precisely as they were by their ancestors.

Borenya is directed by Darren “Bibi” Gilley, who became interested in the music and dance of West Africa while studying anthropology in the United States. After graduating from college in 1995, he took his first trip to West Africa to study percussion. In 2001, he was accepted as a credentialed percussionist by the National Ballet Djoliba of the Republic of Guinea and has since spent more than 9,000 hours studying with the master drummers of Guinea.
