Elementary kids run with the Chants

November 16, 2010

The Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country teams at Coastal Carolina University will mentor approximately 135 Pee Dee Elementary School students as part of the "Run, Jump and Throw with the Chants" program from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18 at the CCU Track & Field Facility.

The 88 CCU students mentoring the children are all in the men and women's cross country and track programs. Chanticleer track & field athletes have twice previously visited Pee Dee Elementary this semester.

Run, Jump and Throw with the Chants is a program designed to promote healthy lifestyle choices and teach basic athletic skills to elementary students in a noncompetitive environment. On Thursday, each Pee Dee student will receive a reading book donated by CCU's Biddle Center to promote reading. The Track & Field/Cross Country teams will also donate school supplies to Pee Dee Elementary School.

The program is sponsored by the University's Dalton and Linda Floyd Family Mentoring Program in the Biddle Center for Teaching, Learning and Community Engagement. For more information, call the Office of Communication at 349-2087.
