CCU staff accompanist to give holiday piano concert

November 29, 2010

Coastal Carolina University staff accompanist Ann Miles will ring in the holidays with a free piano concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12 in the Edwards Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

The afternoon’s performance lineup will feature music from Miles’ new album, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” which includes a medley of 17 seasonal songs like “Jingle Bell Rag,” “White Christmas” and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.” Miles will also play non-Christmas selections.

Miles, who began playing on an upright at age 4, earned a bachelor of music degree in church music from Appalachian State University. She has since worked as director of music and organist for more than 21 years at Darlington Presbyterian Church, accompanied concerts throughout the United States and Europe in venues such as the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and Rosslyn Chapel in Edinburgh and founded The Young Singers of Darlington, which led her to be awarded the Elizabeth Bush Wiggins Award by Black Creek Arts Council of Darlington County for her contribution to the arts.

In addition to her position as staff accompanist at CCU, a position she’s held since 2002, Miles is the organist for First Baptist Church in Conway and founder and artistic director for the newly formed Horry County Coastal Children’s Choirs.

Ann Miles’ piano concert is free to the public. For more information, call the Wheelwright Box Office at 843-349-2502.
