Coastal Carolina University's Board of Trustees has
elected new
officers for 2001-2002. The new officers are Clark B. Parker, chair;
William L. Lyles Jr., vice chair; and George L. Williams Sr.,
secretary.
Parker is a certified public accountant based in Myrtle Beach. He
earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Coastal in
1977 and served on the Horry County Higher Education Commission from
1989 to 1993, including a term as chairman. He is also a past chairman
of Coastal's Alumni Association. Parker has served on Coastal's Board
of Trustees since 1993.
Lyles is president of Carolina Beer Company in Anderson. He earned
a bachelor's degree from Erskine College in 1967. He is a member of the
Anderson area Bank of America advisory board and is a past chair of the
South Carolina Beer Association. Lyles has served on Coastal's Board of
Trustees since 1993.
Williams, a retired educator and civic leader, taught history part
time at Coastal from 1969 to 1974 and was the school's first African-
American instructor. He attended the Catholic University in Washington,
D.C., and earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from South
Carolina State University. Williams has served on the Horry County
Higher Education Commission and was chairman of the Board of Trustees
of Horry-Georgetown Technical College from 1977 to 1983. Williams has
served on Coastal's Board of Trustees since 2000.
Coastal's Board of Trustees has 17 members. Fifteen are elected
by the General Assembly (two from each Congressional District and three
from the state at large), one is appointed by the Governor, and one
member is the Governor's designee.
