CCU's December commencement set for Dec. 11

December 7, 2010

Approximately 466 students are eligible to participate in Coastal Carolina University's fall commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Forty-five of the candidates will receive graduate level degrees; 426 will earn bachelor's degrees. December and August candidates will be recognized.

A real-time webcast of the commencement ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at www.coastal.edu/commencement.

Dick Raskopf, publisher of the Sports Illustrated Golf Group, is the commencement speaker. His address, titled "An Athletic Approach to Life," focuses on what he's learned in his 31-year publishing career. The Golf Group includes GOLF magazine, GOLF.com and SI Golf Plus.

Raskopf graduated magna cum laude from Boston College where he earned a degree in English and communications in 1979. He joined Time Inc. in July 1982 as a sales development writer for Time magazine's marketing department. After serving in sales capacities in Boston and Chicago, Raskopf was named the New York ad sales director and later the advertising director before assuming the role of associate publisher in 1994. He is also founding publisher of Time Digital, which was later relaunched as ON magazine. Raskopf joined the Sports Illustrated franchise in 2004 and was vice president for advertising sales and associate publisher.

This past summer, the Sports Illustrated Group became the title sponsor of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday’s World Amateur Handicap Championship, one of the premier sports events held on the Grand Strand. Raskopf was instrumental in the planning for this year’s event, which attracted more than 3,000 amateur golfers from all 50 states and 20 foreign countries.
