Anonymous donor to match CCU scholarship gifts

December 13, 2010

An anonymous donor to a Coastal Carolina University scholarship fund has offered to match any gift up to $25,000 made by the end of the year.

Donations made to the Frank A. Thompson II Memorial Endowed Health Promotion Scholarship before Jan. 1, 2011, will be eligible for the match gift.

The scholarship was created in honor of the late Frank A. Thompson II, a Conway businessman and civic leader who passed away in 2007. Longtime president and CEO of People’s Underwriters, Thompson led a life of service to his community until his untimely death at age 49.

The health promotion scholarship is designed for students from South Carolina who have demonstrated community service and leadership. Thompson’s wife, Professor Sharon Howell Thompson, teaches in the health promotion program in CCU’s College of Science.

“Frank had a passion for giving back to his community, and this scholarship provides a legacy in which his ideals of outreach and volunteerism will be sustained in perpetuity,” said Lawson Holland, interim vice president for philanthropy at Coastal Carolina University.

For more information or to donate to the scholarship, contact CCU’s Office for Philanthropy at 843-349-2588.
