CCU to co-host homeowner workshops

January 5, 2011

Coastal Carolina University, along with Horry County and the Homeowner Resource Center, will host a daylong event with several workshops pertaining to personal finances and homeownership on Saturday, Jan. 29 in the Coastal Science Center. The workshops are free and open to the public.

Those interested in attending any workshop must register by calling the Homeownership Resource Center at 843-735-7862 or online at www.fsisc.org.

The workshops are:

• A First-Time Homebuyers Workshop, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This session will explore the home buying process and what to expect with the purchase of a first home. HUD-approved housing counselors will work closely with the homebuyer through every step in the purchasing process in an effort to simplify and reduce the stress of buying a home.

• A Mortgage Default Workshop will be conducted twice, at 11 a.m. and at 1 p.m. Homeowners facing foreclosure need only attend one of these clinics. This workshop will allow a distressed homeowner who is either behind on their mortgage payments or facing foreclosure to meet one-on-one with a HUD foreclosure counselor for advice regarding saving their home.

• A Making Ends Meet Budgeting workshop, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop is facilitated by professional, certified consumer credit counselors. This session will provide education in developing and balancing a budget and managing money. Participants will leave the workshop with a written action plan and a free copy of their TransUnion credit score. High school students and college students are encouraged to attend this workshop, which will review the importance of having good credit as you get older. To attend, register by calling the Homeownership Resource Center at 843-735-7862 or online at www.fsisc.org.
