CCU choirs to perform Latin concert

February 24, 2011

The CCU Chamber and Concert Choirs will present “Latin Accents,” a concert of music from the Latin American tradition, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in Wheelwright Auditorium.

The concert, directed by Terri Sinclair, will include contributions from South America, Central America and Caribbean vocal practice, as well as Latin American folksong styles containing Indian, Arabic, African, Hispanic and European influences. Several guest artists will be featured, including faculty members Amy Tully on flute and Dan O’Reilly on saxophone. The CCU Percussion Ensembles will also perform.

Sinclair, associate professor of music at CCU, has held leadership positions and led workshops and clinics for numerous professional organizations and conferences. Her choirs have performed at prestigious locations including the Washington National Cathedral, the Lincoln Center, the N.C. and S.C. Music Educators conventions and at Disneyworld. She is also a published author.

The University’s Concert Choir shares a concert with an area high school and performs a major choral-orchestral work each year, often with professional soloists, in conjunction with other community or university choral organizations and with Long Bay Symphony.

The Chamber Choir is a small, auditioned ensemble that serves as choral ambassadors for the CCU Department of Music. The ensemble tours annually and performs an average of 10 to 12 times per semester for campus, community and professional events. Thy performed most recently for the S.C. Music Educators Convention in Charleston.
