CCU Theatre to present ‘Philadelphia Story’

March 21, 2011

“Philadelphia Story,” a classic 1939 romantic-comedy by American playwright Philip Barry, will be presented by the Coastal Carolina University Theatre Thursday, March 24, through Friday, April 15 in the Edwards Theatre of the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

Directed by John Woodson, “Philadelphia Story” follows Philadelphia socialite Tracy Lord the day before her wedding to a successful businessman. Ever sure of herself, Tracy and the picture-perfect vision of her future is turned upside-down with arrival of ex-husband C.K. Dexter Haven and the attractive tabloid reporter Mike Conner. It will take a bottle of champagne and a compromising situation to crack her forbidding exterior and reveal an understanding heart. This classic comedy about love and marriage, human growth and class distinction finds that sometimes getting what you want means learning to let go.

Principal cast members are CCU students Nicole Borysowicz, Catherine Marshall, Jonny Natterstad and Ryan Sheafer. Others in the production include: Alexa Doggett, Caleb Brennan, Richie Schiraldi, Shana Meyerand, Robert Stetson, Michael Lawrence, Charlie Tingen, Jackie Wiatrowski and Elyse Brown. Faculty member Steve Earnest is also in the cast.

“Philadelphia Story” performance times are 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with an additional Saturday matinee at 3 p.m. General admission tickets are $15 each; tickets for CCU and Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) students (one per valid ID), and children age 17 and under are $5; and tickets for CCU and HGTC faculty/staff (two per valid ID), alumni, senior citizens and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute members are $10.
