Award-winning poet Edward Hirsch to read at CCU

Award-winning poet Edward Hirsch will visit Coastal Carolina University for three days of poetry readings, lectures and discussions from March 30 to April 1.

Hirsch is the author of eight collections of poetry, including his most recent work "The Living Fire: New and Selected Poems." He has also published four prose books, including the New York Times bestseller "How to Read a Poem and Fall in Love with Poetry." Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award and a MacArthur Fellowship, he was a longtime teacher in the creative writing program at the University of Houston. Based in New York City, Hirsch is the president of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.

On Wednesday, March 30, Hirsch will speak about "How to Read a Poem (and Fall in Love with Poetry)" at 6 p.m. in the Recital Hall of Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

On Thursday, March 31, Hirsch will present a poetry reading in the "Words to Say It" series at 4:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration. A reception and book signing will follow.

And on Friday, April 1, Hirsch will lead the discussion "My Pace Provokes My Thoughts: Poetry and Walking" at 2 p.m. in room 247 of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts building.
