Film and TV star returns to CCU for informal chat

April 26, 2011

Actor Michael J. Kelly returns to his alma mater for an informal chat on acting and his career path from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Coastal Carolina University's Black Box Theatre in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The session is free and open to the public.

Kelly, who graduated from CCU in 1992, appears in CBS' spinoff series "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior" and in the current feature film "The Adjustment Bureau" with Matt Damon and Emily Blunt.

“Coastal meant so much to me, and I wanted to give something back. I want to tell students about the reality of an acting career,” says Kelly, who grew up in Lawrenceville, Ga., and attended CCU on a cross-country running scholarship. “It is rare to get the opportunity to do what you love in life.”

Kelly's filmography includes 22 movies and 18 television projects, including the cable series "Generation Kill." His real breakthrough came in 2004 when he was cast in “Dawn of the Dead.” Some of his other films include "Man on the Moon," "Tenderness," "The Changeling," "Did You Hear About the Morgans?" and "Fair Game." Television roles include appearances on "Law and Order," "Judging Amy," The Sopranos," "CSI: Miami" and many others.
