Lightning fire damages University Place

Lightning was the cause of a fire at a Coastal Carolina University residence hall on July 31, according to the Conway Fire Department. The fire occurred Sunday afternoon on the top floor of Building 128 in the University Place (Phase III) complex on S.C. 544. The building was unoccupied and no injuries occurred.

A total of 58 students will be contacted directly by CCU’s Office of University Housing regarding new assignments for the upcoming fall semester. All students displaced by the incident will be accommodated in CCU student residences, according to Steve Harrison, director of University Housing at CCU. Freshman move-in day is Aug. 19, while returning and transfer students will move in on Aug. 20 and 21.

University Place is owned by the Coastal Carolina University Student Housing Foundation and managed by University Housing on behalf of CCU.
