Welcome Week events scheduled for students at CCU

Coastal Carolina University will welcome approximately 2,175 new freshmen and 800 new transfer students to campus for the fall 2011 semester beginning Friday, Aug. 19.

Orientation and welcoming activities will be held before classes begin on Monday, Aug. 22. Welcome Week will begin with residence hall check-in from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 19 and 20, in campus residential communities. Freshmen move in on Friday, and sophomores move in on Saturday.

The annual New Student Convocation will be held on Prince Lawn at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, to welcome new freshmen to the University. Fredanna M’Cormack, CCU health promotion professor, will discuss the 2011 Big Read book, “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” by Rebecca Skloot.

Various other activities are planned as part of the Fall Orientation program, including a Cook-Out with Public Safety (COPS) and CINO (Coastal Is Number One) rally Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. on Prince Lawn.
