CCU's Lifelong Learning to host Free Week

August 26, 2011

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Coastal Carolina University will host “Free Week,” a sampling of noncredit courses from the upcoming semester, on Wednesday, Sept. 7 through Friday, Sept. 9.

Free Week is the OLLI version of orientation and a chance to sample many of the fall offerings at the three outreach centers. Each day starts at 9 a.m. with an overview of the semester.

* Wednesday, Sept. 7 – Conway Foundation Center at U.S. 501 and Winyah Road, 843-349-4001 * Thursday, Sept. 8 – Litchfield at the Waccamaw Higher Education Center at 160 Willbrook Boulevard, 843-349-6584

* Friday, Sept. 9 – Myrtle Beach at the Myrtle Beach Education Center, located at 79th Avenue North and U.S. 17 Bypass, 843-349-2767

During this week, each center is featured one day with the opportunity to visit the facilities, meet instructors, enjoy free lectures and refreshments, register for OLLI membership and classes and get photo IDS to secure member benefits.

Classes for the regular OLLI fall semester will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 14, and more than 350 classes and workshops are planned. Classes will be held at all three of the outreach centers.

A detailed schedule for “Free Week” can be found in the 40-page catalog available at any of the outreach centers, local libraries and chambers of commerce. The catalog also includes a complete listing and descriptions of courses, which range from art and photography, computer technology, foreign languages, history and government, literature and writing, music, theatre and film, personal growth and skills, religion and philosophy, science and nature, and history and nature excursions.

The entire catalog is posted at www.coastal.edu/olli, as is the weekly newsletter, which informs Lifelong Learners about upcoming courses, workshops and community events.
