Eugene Robinson, the Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated columnist, will speak at Coastal Carolina University on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free but tickets are required. Tickets may be picked up at the Wheelwright Box Office on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or prior to the event.

A native of Orangeburg, S.C., Robinson has led a distinguished career in journalism, winning the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary for his Washington Post columns on the 2008 presidential campaign. He was educated at the University of Michigan, where he was the first African American to serve as co-editor-in-chief of the student newspaper.

Robinson began his professional career at The San Francisco Chronicle covering the trial of kidnapped heiress Patricia Hearst. He joined The Washington Post in 1980, serving as city hall reporter, city editor, South America correspondent, London bureau chief, foreign editor and assistant managing editor. He currently writes a twice-weekly column, commenting on various aspects of American society and politics.

He is the author of three books, including “Disintegration: The Splintering of Black America,” and he appears regularly as a panelist and commentator on “Meet the Press” and other news programs. Robinson was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard in 1988 and was elected to the Council on Foreign Relations in 1994.
