CCU kicks off Alcohol Awareness Week

Coastal Carolina University’s annual Alcohol Awareness Week is scheduled for Oct. 10 to Oct. 14. CCU Counseling Services sponsors the week’s activities with the goal of educating students on the responsible use of alcohol and other drugs.

Events include:

* Monday, Oct. 10, Alcohol Carnival, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Prince Lawn. The carnival offers free alcohol screenings as well as fun and educational activities including a DUI simulator, golf cart obstacle course simulator, a mock-tail competition and inflatables. There will also be free food, T-shirts and prizes. For students only.

* Wednesday, Oct. 12, Weed Out Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Prince Lawn. The event offers free marijuana screenings and the chance to win an iPod for those who participate. There will also be a free tie-dying station and a ‘Drug Drop-Off,’ a disposal station for unused prescription medications. For students only.

* Thursday, Oct. 13, Alcohol Awareness Double Feature, 7 to 11 p.m., Edwards Recital Hall. The films “Arthur,” starring Russell Brand, and “Everything Must Go,” starring Will Ferrell, will be shown. This event is free and open to the public.
