‘Social Landscape’ exhibit features photos by CCU, Chinese students

October 12, 2011

“Social Landscape,” a student photography exhibit, will be on display from Thursday, Oct. 13, to Friday, Nov. 25, in the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery located in the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University.

The exhibit is a collaborative effort showcasing photographs by CCU students and by students from the Nanjing Arts Institute in China. The subject of the photographs is the students’ social environments. The project allows students from different cultural backgrounds to explore visually the constant changes that occur in their respective cultures. The photographs, which reflect differences in everything from landscape to the economy, transcend the barriers between the two countries that have been constructed by language and culture.

An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 13, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Edwards Courtyard. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.

This is the second joint exhibition of these students’ work; the first took place this past May at the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum in Nanjing, China. The two universities have made an agreement for future collaborative projects in the arts.

The Bryan Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, contact the gallery at 843-349-3466.
