CCU's Symphonic Band concert to feature dance music

Students from Coastal Carolina University’s Symphonic Band will perform at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, at the Wheelwright Auditorium.

“Shall We Dance?” is a program of band music featuring numbers that were written specifically for dancing. The CCU Symphonic Band, directed by James L. Tully and Matthew Shrewsbury, will showcase the waltz, the two-step and the Latin sound with pieces including “Danzas Cubanas” and “Symphonic Dance No. 3” (“Fiesta”) by Clifton Williams. Instruments including the flute, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, string bass, percussion and piano will be played by CCU students during the concert.

Other pieces include “Waltzing Cat” by Leroy Anderson, “The Washington Post” march by Sousa and music from Broadway’s “Fiddler on the Roof.”

General admission is $9; children 10 and under are admitted free. CCU and Horry Georgetown Technical College students receive one $3 ticket per valid ID. CCU and HGTC faculty and staff receive two $3 tickets per valid ID. Alumni and senior citizens’ tickets are $7 as well as Osher Lifelong Learning Institute members.
