Courses available for professional counselors

Coastal Carolina University's Division of Extended Learning and Public Services is offering a series of Internet-based courses for professional counselors. Continuing education credits earned through these courses will apply toward licensure and re-certification. The course format combines the World Wide Web and audio teleconferencing. The registration fee for each course is $30.

The following courses will be offered:

- Narrative Approaches in Counseling Women and Girls - April 3 to 28; Required conference calls: Thursdays, April 6, 13 and 27 from 5 to 6 p.m.

- Barriers to Successful Treatment: Why Won't They Get Well? - May 1 to May 26; Required conference calls: Sundays, May 7, 14 and 21 from 5 to 6 p.m.

- Adlerian Approaches for Counseling Families - May 8 to June 2; Required conference calls: Thursdays, May 11, 18 and 25 from 5 to 6 p.m.

Course material may be accessed from any location equipped with a World Wide Web browser. Registered participants will be provided with a toll-free number for the one-hour telephone conference call which are scheduled once each week during each course. The unique course delivery format has been designed to provide flexible instruction for counselors who work full time.

Course instructors are Joan Clark and Stacy Cretzmeyer. Clark is a clinical social worker and college-level instructor. She is nationally certified as a master addictions counselor and a certified employee assistance counselor. Cretzmeyer is a licensed professional counselor, a national certified counselor and an approved civil court mediator. She is coordinator of the Women's Advocacy Center in Coastal Carolina University's Counseling Services Center.
