Walk with Marco Polo on legendary journey

January 6, 2012

"In the Footsteps of Marco Polo," a multimedia program about the legendary explorer, will be presented at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Burroughs & Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies at Coastal Carolina University. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Francis O'Donnell, explorer and filmmaker, will discuss Polo's journey, which resulted in a book and PBS film on Marco Polo.

O'Donnell and Denis Bellieveau, a photographer, artist and Marine, set out in the mid-1990s to follow Marco Polo’s historic route through 22 countries. During the two-year trek, they retraced the silk road voyage that Polo made 700 years ago from the Mediterranean shores to the far reaches of Asia.

The lecture is part of the 'Explorations' lecture series of the Center for Archaeology and Anthropology.

The event will be held in room 100 of the Center, which is located at 1270 Atlantic Ave., Conway, east of U.S. 501 across from the main campus. For directions, call the center at 843-349-4019.
