'Shifting Plates' to open at CCU's Bryan Art Gallery

February 16, 2012

"Shifting Plates," an exhibition of 15 printmakers from the South Carolina Upstate, opens Thursday, March 1, in Coastal Carolina University's Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery. The show continues through March 30. It is free and open to the public.

An opening with the exhibition organizer and printmaker, Steven Chapp, will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, in the gallery in room 128 in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. It is also free and open to the public.

"It has been my desire for some time now to connect with printmakers of the Upstate of South Carolina for a collective print portfolio," says Chapp, founder of Black Dog Press.

Initially conceived as a simple exchange with fellow artists, Chapp's idea quickly blossomed into a portfolio of talented printmakers from the upstate counties of Anderson, Greenville, Pickens and Spartanburg. Representing some of the most prominent printmakers in the state, "Shifting Plates" showcases the diversity of styles and techniques in the contemporary print studio in this collection of hand-pulled prints.

Artists in the exhibition are: Wells Alewine, Kent Ambler, Andrew Blanchard, Jim Campbell, Steven Chapp, Kevin Clinton, Katya Cohen, Jim Creal, Syd Cross, Daniel Cvammen, Marty Epp-Carter, Phil Garrett, Luis Jaramillo, Catherine LabbÄ and Mark Mulfinger.
