Award-winning writer Alan Michael Parker, the author of two novels and seven collections of poems, will read from his latest work at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, in the Wall Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University. The reading is free and open to the public.

Parker is the author of the novels "Whale Man" and "Cry Uncle," along with poetry collections that include "Long Division." His stories and poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review, The New Yorker, The Yale Review and in "The Best American Poetry 2011" as well as the 2010 Pushcart Prize anthology. Since 1998, Parker has taught at Davidson College, where he is professor of English and director of creative writing; he is also a core faculty member in the Queens University M.F.A program.

Parker has received numerous awards and fellowships, including two Pushcart Prizes, the Timeline Prize from Mid-American Review and the Lucille Medwick Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America.

A reception and book signing will follow Parker's reading, and his book will be available for purchase. The Wall Auditorium is located in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration at 119 Chanticleer Drive E. across from the residence halls.
