Day of Remembrance Ceremony set at CCU

March 27, 2012

Coastal Carolina University will hold its fifth annual Day of Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, April 16, at noon. The event takes place in Spadoni Park Circle, just beneath the Graham Family Bell Tower. The public is invited.

The purpose of the ceremony is to remember those members of the CCU family – students, faculty and staff – who passed away the previous year. This event will honor the following CCU students: Edward R. ‘Chip’ Day, Rae Danielle Jones, Kyle A. Rowley, Shawn A. White and Shelby S. Wooten. Faculty/staff members Thomas Benedetti, Lisa Barboun, James ‘Jim’ Farmer and former chancellor Edward M. ‘Dick’ Singleton will also be acknowledged during the ceremony. The bell will toll for each of these individuals and once for the victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy.

CCU’s Day of Remembrance Ceremony was initiated on April 20, 2007, to pay homage to the students who lost their lives during the Virginia Tech tragedy on April 16, 2007. CCU Student Government Association officers, along with other students, decided to include members of the CCU family in the ceremony as well.

This event is co-sponsored by the University’s SGA and Counseling Services.
