Sexual Assault Awareness Week raises consciousness

April 4, 2012

Coastal Carolina University will observe Sexual Assault Awareness Week April 9 to 13 with various programs and events designed to encourage discussion and promote awareness of sexual violence. All events are free and open to the public.

The highlight of the week is an event called "Walk A Mile In Her Shoes," which will take place in Spadoni Park at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12. Each male participant will be sponsored by a female "blister sister," who will assist him in walking through a mile-long obstacle course in high heel shoes. The purpose of this event is to give men a sense of empathy for the female experience.

Other Sexual Assault Awareness Week events include:

Monday, April 9

"Stand Up, Speak Out!" 6 to 8 p.m., Woods Covered Pavilion

Students, faculty and staff join to speak out against sexual violence.

Thursday, April 12
