CCU World Music Ensemble to play South American and Caribbean music

The Coastal Carolina University World Music Ensemble will present an evening of Latin music on Tuesday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wheelwright Auditorium.

The World Music Ensemble will perform selections of music from Brazil and the Caribbean. The concert will also feature a performance by the Coastal percussion ensemble, Samba Bateria, which will perform various musical styles of Brazil, including Samba Batucada and Maracatu Nação. CCU’s Steel Pan ensemble of will also play a blend of traditional calypso/soca music from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. This concert is under the musical direction of Jesse Willis, director of percussion studies and assistant professor of music at Coastal.

Ticket prices are: General admission, $9; CCU and Horry Georgetown Technical College students, $3 (one per valid ID); CCU and HGTC faculty/staff, $3 (two per valid ID); alumni/senior citizens, $7 (ages 65 and older); Osher Lifelong Learning Institute members, $7; Youths, $3 (ages 11 to 17). Children 10 and under are free with a ticket, but must be accompanied by an adult.

The Wheelwright Auditorium is located on 107 Founders Drive on the Coastal Carolina campus.
