Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts creates Board of Visitors

Nineteen individuals have been named to the newly created Board of Visitors of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University. The purpose of the board is to link the activities and objectives of the college with the community. The members will serve three-year terms.

According to Lynn Franken, dean of the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, board members will also contribute individual expertise by serving as student mentors, guest speakers and consultants, and help to identify and acquire resources for the college.

Departments within the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts are: art, English, foreign languages, history, music, philosophy and religion, politics and geography, and theater. The Waccamaw Center for Cultural and Historical Studies is also a part of the college.

Officers of the new board of visitors are:

- Chair: Cheryl Newby, gallery owner, Murrells Inlet; - Vice Chair: Nancy Cave, marketing professional, Georgetown; and - Treasurer: Hugh Martin, First Union Securities, Myrtle Beach. Other members of the board include: - Thomas Brittain, Hearn Brittain & Martin PA, Myrtle Beach; - David Duvall, CPA, Aynor; - Mary Eaddy, The Wordsmith, Inc., Myrtle Beach; - Robin W. Edwards, Myrtle Beach; - Tom Fox, opera singer, Pawleys Island; - Fred Hicks III, former Coastal chancellor and faculty member, Savannah, Ga.; - Ilka Doubek, Litchfield Dance Arts Academy, Pawleys Island; - Judy Ingle, curriculum coordinator, Georgetown County School District, Murrells Inlet; - Robin Jones, hospitality program manager, Horry County Schools, Myrtle Beach; - Patricia O'Connor, editor, The Sun News, Myrtle Beach; - Rev. Manney Reid, retired Episcopal priest, Pawleys Island; - Fran Reid, retired arts coordinator, Pawleys Island; - Paul Roddick, U.S. Pentagon, Alexandria, Va.; - Laurie Stewart, Long Bay Symphony board of directors, Myrtle Beach; - Joseph Wachter, attorney, Myrtle Beach; and - Deirdre Sams Williams, dentist, Conway.
