CCU showcases diversity with annual Cultural Celebration

Coastal Carolina University's Cultural Celebration is set for Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Prince Lawn. This event is free and open to the public. The rain date is Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the same time and location.

Gustavo Arenas, a Colombian-born composer, will perform from 11 to 11:30 a.m., and again from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Arenas is a Grammy-nominated composer, conductor and arranger. In 2003, Arenas received the Orquidea Award as Colombia's most successful international artist.

Yasmine and Magic Hips will perform from 11:30 to 11:45 a.m. She is an award-winning American cabaret dance artist who performs various forms of belly dances, with a focus on modern Egyptian styles. She travels the globe offering seminars and lessons.

Flutist Galen Abdur-Razzaq will perform from noon to 12:30 p.m. Abdur-Razzaq, a graduate of Rutgers University, has been performing domestically and internationally for more than 30 years.

The CCU World Music Ensemble will perform from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

In addition to the entertainment, the event will offer crafts and cuisine from various countries. The event is sponsored by CCU's Office of Multicultural Student Services.
