CCU celebrating the freedom to read freely

October 2, 2012

Coastal Carolina University will host "Banned Book Read-Out" on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. at the James J. Johnson Auditorium (formerly Wall Auditorium on campus). The event signals the 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week, which ends Oct. 9.

Faculty members and students will read passages from banned books to support freedom of expression and raise awareness of censorship. Some of the banned books that will be read include "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Slaughterhouse Five" and "Hunger Games." Megan Barber will also sing a banned musical number during the event.

This event is sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. Refreshments will follow the reading.
