CCU to host Fall Farmers Market

October 8, 2012

Coastal Carolina University is hosting a Fall Farmers Market on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Spadoni Park. CCU invites faculty, staff, students and the public to browse and purchase local produce and products.

In cooperation with the Waccamaw Market Cooperative, the Farmers Market will include a variety of local, seasonal items available for purchase. Payments in debit/credit, cash and check are accepted. Anyone who brings a canned food item to donate to the CCU Food Bank will get a free prize.

Activities include:

* Free eco-friendly giveaways

* Litter awareness

* Eco-rep environmental activity

* Recipe ideas

"The first Farmers Market at the university in April was a huge success and created a lot of positive buzz," said Jennifer Sellers, sustainability coordinator. "We had to continue to support our local farmers and host a second one this fall. I believe this event will not only promote local economics and local growers, but provide the opportunity for the campus community to buy local produce."

Spadoni Park is located between Wheelwright Auditorium and Lib Jackson Student Center. For more information, call 843-349-5041 or email sustain@coastal.edu.
