CCU business college readies for Wall Connections event

October 23, 2012

Wall College Connections, a signature event sponsored annually by the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration at Coastal Carolina University, is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the Wall College of Business. This year's theme is "Not Just for Profit: Sustainability, Social Responsibility and Social Entrepreneurship."

Horry Telephone Cooperative and CCU's Women's Resource Center are also sponsoring the event.

From noon to 6 p.m., 50-minute sessions will be offered on topics such as sustainable energy, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, personal fitness and sustainable business practices.

Keynote speaker Liz Bohannon founded Sseko Designs, a sandal company in Uganda created to help young women continue their education. The company is a not-just-for-profit enterprise that recognizes the power of business and responsible consumerism to support sustainable economic development. Bohannon's passions are social justice and compassionate consumerism, and she believes that empowering women is a fundamental piece of working toward a more just and peaceful world. The keynote session will begin at 5 p.m. and will be held in the Johnson Auditorium in the Wall College of Business.

Panel sessions for closer discussions of the topics at hand will be offered throughout the day on issues such as "Prominent Business Leaders Discuss Sustainability and Social Responsibility," with Bohannon; Christopher Ibsen, director of corporate affairs for Piggly Wiggly Carolina; and Rhett Power, co-founder/CEO of Wild Creations.

All students in business classes will attend the seminar.
