Poet Glaser to speak about social justice, ethics

October 24, 2012

Michael S. Glaser, professor emeritus at St. Mary's College of Maryland, will speak on "The Power of Poetry for Exploring Values-Based Choices" at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, in the James J. Johnson Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University. The event, which is part of the Art and Social Justice Series and the Nancy K. Smith Distinguished Visitors Series, is free and open to the public.

Glaser is the author of seven collections of poetry. His presentation will explore how poetry can help us hear our inner, values-based voice and how the concept of social justice is interwoven with living authentic, ethical lives. Glaser will present his own poetry in addition to works of other poets. The event will meet the Big Read requirement for students enrolled in the FYE course at CCU.

The event is co-sponsored by the Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values, the Department of English and The Big Read. For more information about the event, contact Brian Tracy at 843-349-4149.
