Hurricane Sandy poses rip current threat
October 25, 2012
Coastal Carolina University's Emergency Management Team is monitoring the
progress of Hurricane Sandy. Although the storm is projected to pass well to
the east of the South Carolina coast, there is a high risk of rip currents
along area beaches.
Students are advised to avoid swimming and surfing in the ocean over the next several days as rip currents make water activities very dangerous. To learn more on rip current safety, visit http://ripcurrents.noaa.gov/overview.shtml.
Students, faculty and staff are urged to sign up for CCU Alert to receive urgent emergency text messages through their mobile phones. http://www.coastal.edu/emergency/ccualert.html.
