CCU intelligence/security instructor invited to Sundance for premiere

  Cynthia Storer
Cynthia Storer, a Coastal Carolina University lecturer who formerly worked for the Central Intelligence Agency, has been invited to the Sundance Film Festival Jan. 19 to 23 to attend the premiere of a film in which she appears.

Storer, who worked as a CIA analyst for 20 years, is interviewed in the HBO documentary "Manhunt," based on Peter Bergen's book about the search for Osama Bin Laden and the war on terror. "Manhunt" will air on the HBO network later this year after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, Jan. 20.

She was part of a group of CIA women called "the Sisterhood" in the book and the film who dedicated their lives working to fight against al-Qaida and the possible consequences of terrorism in this country. Storer developed a model called the "Ziggurat of Zealotry" that arrays Islamists in a hierarchical fashion in terms of their radicalization. In 2006, The New York Times named the Ziggurat one of the best 20 new ideas of the year.

Storer is a lecturer for CCU's new intelligence and national security degree program in the Department of Politics and Geography.
