Come watch or sign up to participate as Coastal Carolina University's Prince Lawn blasts into a flash mob and evolves into a dance party on Thursday, Feb. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CCU unites with V-Day's ONE BILLION RISING campaign to invite women and those who love them to take part in one of the many scheduled events around the world, where people rise up, dance and demand an end to violence against women. At 12:05 p.m., the crowd will dance to "Break the Chains," the official One Billion Rising song.

CCU's Women's and Gender Studies Program hosts the event, in partnership with the CARES Coalition and Women's Resource Center. Representatives from local anti-violence organizations such as the Rape Crisis Center and Eastern Carolina Coalition Against Human Trafficking will also be on site to provide information about how to address violence against women in the Myrtle Beach area.

ONE BILLION RISING is V-Day's newest activist campaign to raise awareness concerning domestic violence and sexual assault both locally and globally. It began as a response to the statistic that one in three women of the world's population of 7 billion will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. That adds up to more than 1 billion victims of violence and assault. In its 15th year, V-Day has raised funds and awareness, while demanding an end to violence against women and girls. The group has raised more than $90 million and educated millions about the issue. This is expected to be the largest day of action ever.
